The match was all set with the two teams unbeaten placed top and second in the table. Everything was set, team ready, strong opposition and the pitch in perfect condition fitting of the game. On the night the only thing not perfect was the weather.

Given the setting and the teams involved, these are the nights you want football to be reason for a win or a loss. Beggsboro got off to the perfect start with a goal after 30 seconds. Woodlawn equalised but in contentious circumstances. A free kick was given to Woodlawn and while the Beggsboro defenders were being spoken to by the referee Woodlawn took a quick free quick leading to the equaliser. While the Laws of the game permit a free kick to be taken without the referees whistle being blown the referees permission is required for the free kick to be valid. Not the case last night but the goal was allowed to stand.

Beggsboro went on to take the lead on two further occasions but were pegged back both times leaving the final result at 3-3. Still undefeated, still top of the league, but the draw feeling more  like a loss given the disputed legitimacy of the first equaliser. A great game unfortunately one decided by a decision that was hard to accept for the home team.

Next week we go again.
